Recycling Drop-Off Centre Closure & Change of Dalefield Road Transfer Station Hours |
The recycling drop-off centre behind the town clock is to close and be incorporated into the Dalefield Road refuse transfer station site. Council has reluctantly made this decision due to ongoing problems with the current recycling site from household rubbish being dumped and noise disturbance to nearby residents from people recycling or scavenging at night. In addition, some out-of-district residents use the centre at a cost to Carterton District ratepayers as there is no other similar facility in the Wairarapa.
This change will mean that residents can only deposit their recyclables when the transfer station is open. However, the transfer station will be open on more days than present and there will continue to be no charges for recyclables. The new arrangements will come into effect from Monday 1 March 2010. The new hours and days of operation are below.
Urban residents are reminded that council’s weekly kerbside recycling collection still operates from 7.30 am every Monday. Recyclables must be placed in your green bin for collection. Extra bins can be purchased from council for $11.00. Items that can be recycled have not changed glass bottles, aluminium and metal cans, newspapers and cardboard (corrugated only), and plastics containers (1 and 2 only). Please rinse out all containers.
Refuse Transfer Station - Change of Hours From Monday 1 March 2010 the Dalefield Road transfer station hours and days of operation will change. The additional hours of operation are to allow residents greater access for disposing of refuse and recycling. The new hours and days of operation are as follows:
Monday Closed
Tuesday 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Wednesday 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Thursday 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Friday 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Saturday 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Sunday 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm

waingawa structure plan |
After considering the feedback received on the draft structure plan in the first half of 2009 (view here), the Council resolved to adopt a revised Waingawa Structure Plan and its accompanying report in September 2009, and to proceed with the preparation of a proposed District Plan Change to give statutory effect to the revised Structure Plan, subject to further consultation with affected landowners and other stakeholders.
A plan change has been drafted for consultation purposes, a copy of which can be viewed here (proposed District Plan changes shown in red text). The Carterton District Council is undertaking informal consultation on this draft plan change with landowners and other interested parties over February 2010 to assist and inform its preparation. All feedback on the draft plan change will be considered before proceeding to formally notify it as a proposed plan change.
