Wairarapa Governance
All Councils in the Wellington Region have agreed that by the end of June 2011 each of the respective Councils would conduct a consultation process with their communities, inviting written submissions commenting on the scope, options and structures set out in the Price Waterhouse Coopers review of governance in the Wellington Region.
The Carterton, Masterton and South Wairarapa Councils are keen to encourage community discussion on the ideas in the consultant's report, including the structural options for both the Wellington Region and the Wairarapa community:
· Status quo - No change
· Strengthened regional council – centralising more regional functions
· Logical clusters (of local councils) – Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, Wellington/Porirua, Kapiti
· Two tier local government – strong regional council with fewer district/city councils
· Two sub-regional unitary authorities – Wairarapa and Wellington
· A single regional unitary authority - super city
We are keen to hear any of your ideas on the form and function of the region, including ideas not provided in the Price Waterhouse Coopers review – tell us what you think.
