Purpose
The councils have undertaken to carryout the landscape study to satisfy statutory planning requirements at both regional and district plan levels:
The Proposed Wairarapa Combined Plan, Objective 9.3.1 and Method 9.3.4 (a) undertakes to?..?initiate a comprehensive assessment of the landscape values across the Wairarapa in consultation with landowners, stakeholders and the wider community with the consequent application of appropriate methods to manage those values?

 The Proposed Regional Policy Statement, Policies 24 & 26 requires that the region?s outstanding natural features and landscapes, and significant amenity landscapes, be identified in district and regional plans. . (One of the Regional Policy Statement methods for implementing these policies is method 49: ?Develop and disseminate a regional landscape character description that categorises and describes the region?s landscapes.?)
