From Friday 17 December 2010 a Restrict Fire Season has been imposed on the lighting of fires in the open on all lands within the Wairarapa Rural Fire District.
No fires may be lit in the open air during the Restricted Fire Season without a Fire Permit having first been issued by the Wairarapa Rural Fire District.
A Permit is required for campfires, bonfires, rubbish fires, wood fired barbeques, braziers, thermettes, welding plants, portable forges and open incinerators. Permits are not required for gas barbeques and properly constructed back yard incinerators which have approved spark arrestors fitted.
Before the lighting of any fire, an application for a permit needs to be made at the Carterton District Council Office during normal office hours (8.30 am to 4.30 pm). A council officer will inspect the site before issuing a permit. There is no charge for fire permits.
